Additional Services
Matting Charges Apply:
Dogs with matted coats require additional time, care, and gentle handling to safely remove tangles while keeping your dog comfortable and relaxed throughout the grooming process. Matting removal is charged at $20 per 15 minutes, depending on the severity of the matting and the time required to address it safely. Your dog’s coat is always assessed on arrival, and all matting-related charges are discussed with you prior to grooming.
Extras:
Flea Treatment & Medicated Shampoo: on request.
De-shedding: Additional charge based on coat condition.
Nail Clipping: Included in grooming packages or available separately.
Note: Prices may vary depending on breed, coat condition, and grooming requirements. For a personalised quote, feel free to contact us!
Pre-Groom Clip Off Fee
In some cases, dogs with overgrown coats may require extra clipping or preparation before the bath so the coat can be properly cleansed and your dog remains comfortable throughout their groom. This may apply even if there is no matting, as excess length or density can prevent the coat from being washed effectively. Any additional time required for this pre-groom coat work is charged at $10 per 15 minutes, based on the time needed prior to bathing. Coat condition is assessed on arrival, and any additional charges will always be discussed with you before grooming begins.
About us
Hi, I'm Leasha, the owner and groomer behind Poppy’s Parlour. As an experienced groomer with an extensive background in veterinary nursing and a lifelong passion for animal care, my mission is to make every dog feel safe, relaxed, and pampered during their visit.
With a strong focus on one-on-one grooming in a calm, cage-free environment, I tailor each appointment to suit your dog’s individual needs. Whether it’s a full groom, a tidy-up, or a simple nail trim, your furry friend will leave looking and feeling their absolute best. At Poppy’s Parlour, it’s not just about grooming – it’s about creating a positive experience for every dog who walks through the door.
Based in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, I offer professional, gentle grooming with a deep understanding of dog behaviour and wellbeing. My experience in vet clinics has taught me how to handle pets with care, patience, and confidence—especially those who may be anxious or sensitive. I started this business to create a grooming space where dogs feel safe, calm, and respected. My own beloved dog, Poppy, inspired me to turn my passion into my own business. Whether it’s a tidy-up for your oodle’s face or a full groom for a nervous rescue, I tailor every session to meet your dog’s individual needs with compassion and skill.

Grooming takes time, skill, and care. Costs include:
Time spent brushing, bathing, drying, clipping, and cleaning
Specialized equipment and products
Handling pets gently and safely (especially nervous or senior dogs)
Breed-specific styles or coat types that require more effort
Dealing with issues like matting, fleas, or skin conditions
Grooming is more than just a haircut — it’s a full care service.
Severe matting can’t be brushed out safely:
It pulls painfully on the dog’s skin
Brushing mats can cause skin damage or bruising
Mats trap moisture, leading to infections or sores
Shaving is often the kindest, least traumatic option
Prevention is best: brush regularly at home and don’t skip grooming appointments.
Yes, but always brush thoroughly before bathing. Bathing a matted dog can make mats tighter and harder to remove. Use dog-specific shampoo and rinse well to avoid residue that irritates the skin. Do not bath more often than once every few weeks.
Overgrown nails:
Can cause discomfort or joint issues
Are more likely to split or break
Can grow into the paw pad in extreme cases
Most dogs need a trim every 3–6 weeks.
Yes, but it may take time and patience. Our groomer will go slowly, use calming techniques, and may recommend shorter, more frequent visits to build trust.
Absolutely! Puppies need early, gentle introductions to grooming. Senior dogs can be groomed too, with extra care and breaks to ensure their comfort.
Home brushing is fantastic, but it doesn’t replace:
Sanitary trims
Nail cutting
Ear cleaning
Mat prevention
Skin and health checks done during a full groom
A professional groomer catches early signs of issues you might miss.
